Because my boyfriend had asthma when he was younger but he told the recruiter he does not have it because he wants to join so he can go to college.

those rules are there for a reason. he is not going to have the ongoing treatment he will need. he will exert his lungs. this is dangerous.
It is not unknown for someone to grow out of this distressing complaint and so he may not suffer from it. If in the event he finds it does he would get an administrative discharge. I do not know if they do that in US or the consequences of it
If he has an asthma attack at basic and his lungs are x-rayed they will show scaring due to asthma. He may end up with a fraudulent enlistment discharge. X-rays will show asthma scaring. My son had chest x-rays last year and the doc was able to see that he had asthma. Your best bet is to be honest. If he had childhood asthma that ended around the age of 13, he may be able to get a waiver. This is a much better alternative.
If they find out, he will get discharged.
When I was active duty in the national guard, I had to process several people out for the same thing. Not just because of asthma, but also because they were not “fit for duty”.
They will eventually catch him in a physical and then medical Board him out.
First time in Chem gear he will be found out and tested and Boarded.
It isn’t fraudulent if he had it as a kid and “had no reasonable expectation that he still had it”
Better watch what he says when they catch him.
To Sandra- he made it through MEPS so game over on that one.

if he does have asthma, and he gets an asthma attack during boot camp, he will be charged with fraudulent enlistment, and this will stay on his record for the rest of his life. he could also face jail time. and if he still does have asthma, he should think about the men he’ll be serving with. what if he has an asthma attack in the middle of a shootout in Afghanistan? he then puts his life and the people around him at risk. if he only had asthma when he was younger, he should tell his recruiter, and they might be able to get him a waiver if proven he doesn’t have asthma anymore.
